CLI

Install ase

Install ase with one command. The install script needs only curl and openssl on macOS and Linux, or PowerShell on Windows.

macOS and Linux

curl -fsSL https://downloads.asebrain.com/install.sh | sh

This installs ase to ~/.local/bin. Set ASE_INSTALL_DIR to install somewhere else.

Windows

In PowerShell:

irm https://downloads.asebrain.com/install.ps1 | powershell -NoProfile -Command -

This installs ase to %LOCALAPPDATA%\ase\bin.

Check it works

ase --version

If your shell can't find ase, add the install folder to your PATH: your shell profile on macOS and Linux, or the user Path variable on Windows. Then open a new terminal.

Next, sign in. Your first sign-in also installs the ase skill for Claude and Codex.

Supported platforms

OS Architectures
Windows x64, arm64
macOS Apple silicon, Intel
Linux x64, arm64

Signed releases

Every ase release is signed by ASE Brain. The install scripts, ase self-update and the automatic update all check that signature and each binary's checksum before installing it. A binary that fails either check is never installed.

Updates

ase keeps itself current. At most once an hour, before running a command, it checks for a newer release. When there is one, it downloads it, checks its signature, replaces itself and reruns your command on the new version. You don't need to do anything.

  • ase self-update updates right away.
  • ase --version checks for an update first, then prints the version.
  • If an update fails, for example because you're offline, your command runs on the current version.
  • Updates are skipped in CI and when ASE_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1 is set.

In CI

The game workflows ASE Brain keeps in your repo install ase themselves. To pin one version across a run's jobs, set ASE_CLI_VERSION before the install script:

curl -fsSL https://downloads.asebrain.com/install.sh | ASE_CLI_VERSION=1.4.0 sh

With a coding agent

ase skill install writes the ase skill where Claude and Codex look for personal skills, and registers ASE Brain's MCP server in Claude Code and Codex. Then you can ask either agent to "make a new game with ase", or ask questions about your studio's games. ase login does this for you the first time, and ase keeps the skill current afterwards.

The MCP server signs you in through its own browser flow the first time you use it: /mcp in Claude Code, or codex mcp login ase-brain in Codex.
